Lectio Divina

I first heard the term Lectio Divina when I was in my last year as a traditional student at SEU. There is a growing number of students and faculty there who are branching away from traditional or western/American Christianity; taking it back to its sacred roots and some Eastern and Monastic influences. Perhaps characteristics of this movement would include valuing Scripture, prayer, quiet and solitude, less consumerism, less noise, more community and social awareness, increased family participation and creative arts, so forth. Buzz words: Post-modern (quick history), Benedictine Spirituality, among others.
Truly, I am the furthest thing from an expert on the subject, it is even gutsy to write a post on it at all! I just wanted to pose the thoughts for my readers. I am now reading a book on Lectio Divina: Divine Intervention, by Tony Jones. Interesting. I haven’t really gotten to the actual practice part yet, but I’m sort of hoping it will bring about some passion to my faith which is otherwise undisciplined and often shallow.
