LostCast

It has been quite a few Wednesday’s since I blogged about LOST, my favorite TV show ever. As I last reported, LOST will be playing a season of late winter-late spring, no fall whatsoever, making us fans go without for more than half a year! Lost night has been a tradition for me since Lil E’s birth just about. I rarely watched TV before that, not nearly enough to have a “show” to call my own, because I was a full-time student and working all the time. After having Lil E, my sister and brother-in-law moved in next door and we all decided to rent some shows on dvd while we spent a lazy few summer weeks recovering from babies, weddings, moves, etc. It took DISC ONE of Season One and I was done, hook line and sinker, whatever you want to call it. I especially got a kick out of the mystery, the puzzle, the questions, the Others, the Smoke Monster, so on. It’s like sci fi for the 21st century.

Though not every show since then has been stellar, I keep watching and sure enough, the season ends and I’m impressed. I’ve heard ratings going down but so long as they didn’t cancel the show, I could care less. I think a lot of people didn’t want to keep guessing, didn’t appreciate the sci fi so much. Who knows, but the characters, writing, everything is just awesome. I’ve gotten into lots of shows since then at one time or another, especially trying to wind down after putting Lil’ E to bed. Lost still entertains, whether I’m on the message boards searching for clues I missed, or simply a Wed. night fan. I haven’t followed the underground, die-hard fanatic circle for awhile, so I am probably late in reporting the Lost video game (Hubby, the semi-avid gamer pointed out), set for sale early next year. I wish it were strategically ready now, so that fans could play the game while we wait for Season 4. But, oh well, it just means I’ll have time to find some Lostie friends in PDX who can join us for appetizers and LOST on Wednesdays, (the tradition started back in Lakeland, with R&R and NannyGirl/Husband, joined later by the Auel’s.) I really miss those evenings!

So here’s the trailer for the game, and in the meantime I will do my very best to get the latest scoop weekly and bring it to you in a nice little bloggy package every Wednesday, as things once were :)

Am I the last to find out?

You plan a cross-country move and many things are forgotten: that thank you note I meant to send, the payment of my student loans for last month… all of these things are but minor and temporary lapses in memory when compared to the fact that I have been completely separated from any and all knowledge of what is going on the the show LOST.

OF COURSE I watched the finale and cried when Charlie drowned (how DID they get me to do that when they basically told us he would die months ago? AND I wasn’t even that keen on Charlie, until of course that finale and then I’m actually grieving his death!) - what I feel I am the last to know about is the fact that LOST season 4 will not return until Feb 2008!!!!!

…………………………………………………..

Wiki: Season 4 will feature 16 episodes that will begin airing in the United States and Canada sometime in February of 2008.[39] The season will run all of its episodes consecutively without repeats.

FEBRUARY 2008!!!!

Um, I’m sorry (?!), what am I supposed to do with my Wednesday nights NOW??? Huh? It’s sad enough that my little group of friends and family will not be gathering for LOST night because I’m all the way in p’town, but now I’ve got until next YEAR to wait for the tradition to even hint at starting up again.

‘Tis a sad heart that beats in my chest this night. I can feel the wet, cold winter upon me.

Things to munch on…

1. Wednesday night, (which means LOST, duh,) was purty cool- in a “what the heck?” sorta way. I was rebuked for talking too much by the other attendees of our little Lostie get-together… something I really must work on. But, hey, it made for a dramatic and memorable night, for better or worse. Sorry guys! Only human.

2. Anna Nicole’s death was quite the ironic surprise to see on the news… and then quite the annoying “beat a dead horse” after about a day. Take the damn DNA, bury the corpe, figure out who the daddy is (if you can), and make him pay child support. (I don’t care who the heck gets the dang money so long as the baby is taken care of!) Then pray that the baby grows up with the closest things to loving parents possible. What NOT to do: keep putting this on the news when there are truly more important things going on in the world, after all.

3. Freezing temperatures outside another thing that we could say ENOUGH! to. I love the cold and don’t wish for that 9 month summer any time soon, but this FL girl is not used to it for this long. Lil’ E doesn’t even own enough pants for this.

4. We went through a scare this week, thought we would be forced to move and freaked that we aren’t ready to buy but would also hate to rent due to various reasons. I didn’t even manage to get 30 hours of work in this week due to worry and research on preparing for moving— and all for not because our current landlord is now willing to sign us into a year lease so we have some security when the place sells. (We had only monthly security since our year lease was up over 2 years ago- so when they decided to sell and some buyers might be looking to move in, we realized we only truly had through whatever month we had paid on to stay!) SO-THANK GOD! (really.) We can stay on our current plan to try to get out of debt and save for a home and buy at the “right” time, … whatever that means.

5. Hubby finishing up school this semester- all signs point to graduation this April and possible MBA aspirations soon after. My own graduate school goals are up in the air– beginning to think I should go for a degree or grad certificate in Instructional Technology rather than Creative Writing. I know. I’m one big dichotomy, I swear. And I can’t even spell.

6. We participated in a community event this weekend, (not something we think outside ourselves enough to do often). And this community event wasn’t exactly something that would earn us charitable or neighborly partipation points any time soon- it was the Kiwana’s Pancake Festival. (noooo, I didn’t eat any pancakes and forgo my dietary restrictions- but I did take some pics of my “boys”)

Things to munch on...   Things to munch on...   Things to munch on...

7. Watching the news right now and, believe it or not, I’m much happier seeing news about Bill Murry being in Tampa for some golf game than more news about Anna Nicole.

8. Church was really good this morning. That Pastor Tim packs a mean sermon. Not that he’s mean. Quite the opposite.

9. Speaking of church, I’m reading more into my book, and thought this quote a good one to share:

“…unfortunately, so much of what we’re currently fighting against (’we’ meaning the church in America for starters) isn’t the real enemy, and so much of what we’re fighting for isn’t the real prize. Largely we’re fighting to get something back — a lost status as the civil religion of the West, control (political, too often) over things that are out of our control, a priviledged position as the favoured religion of the Empire, protection of the middle class from the lower and upper classes, and so on. These are futile fights. We’re also focused on fighting symptoms like abortion, promiscuity (hetero or homosexual), divorce, and profanity. We might add terrorism to the list. But these are not the disease. These are in many ways the symptoms of the very disease that we inadvertently tend to support, aid and abet, defend, protect, baptize, and fight for — a system sick with consumerism, greed, fear, violence, and misplaced faith (in the power of the Economy and the State and its weapons).”

10. I have no idea why I counted to ten in this blog except for the sheer backdoor it created so that I can now stop.

oh where, oh where has my little mama gone?

Ya’ll, I love to blog- I think the whole thing is about one of the coolest ideas to come along in a while.

However, I have been working overtime nearly every week– and you all know that to get an 8 hour day of work while watching Lil E’ at the same time takes about 11 hours to do. Plus that little thing called raising a child is work, just not paid in money, (but of course, in much richer ways.)

And I’m not telling you WHY I’m not blogging (because that’s kinda annoying, as if you have nothing better to do than wait for my posts every day), I’m just telling you what I have been up to… a back door way of explaining my lack of blogging.

Well, I’ve started reading this book that I’ve avoided reading for 2 years… waiting for that perfect phase of my life that I have the least amount of time and mental energy to devote to this fantastic read. But, I’m very glad. Check it out… if you’re ready!

Perhaps my biggest regret is not blogging after LOST last week! It was great- sort of a child of the promise in relation to the first 6 episodes last Fall. Two big moments: What the heck were they doing strapping Carl to a chair with magnifying eye wear and flashing images/messages across a big screen in front of him? Woah… And of course, the totally out of no where guy getting hit by a bus. And, low and behold I think I’ll be giving Juliet a chance before saying she is evil again…and we all know writers meant this episode specifically to change MY mind about Juliet, gosh darn it.

Well, its time for bed for me- I know, I know, its not even midnight, WHAT HAVE I DONE WITH VIVIAN??? I’m tellin ya, I find it just as unbelievable- but tis true.

G’night!

For those who can’t wait…

Some LOST news is in order:

First of all, make note: LOST has a new time! 10/9 central rather than 8/7 central! That isn’t great for this household, because we get up so early. Of course I am still going to watch it!

Here are some goodies you can watch until Feb. 7th…

Lost music video:

Too funny:

I’ve been a little out of the loop with the Lost Experience and the Hanso Foundation stuff lately, but I found these interesting finds on youtube- wish I had seen them months ago when they were posted! So those who haven’t seen them, this might help enlighten some of the stuff going on with our little islanders:

Like spoilers of LOST? Check them out here.

But, principal, my absence was excused!

Wow, I said that WAY too many times in high school. My senior year, I missed 57 days in the first semester alone. School went WAY too slow for me. I still managed to make straight A’s though- and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what’s wrong with kids today.

Anyway, I wanted to offer you people an apology for just taken off like that the last week or so. Right after New Year I headed out of town, (south to Naples area and across to Miami) on a magazine assignment (ew, that sounds so self-important). I got back in Sunday evening and took a few days to adjust. Aside from driving nearly 3-5 hours every day with a one year old, the trip was really interesting! Lil’ E was on his blessed best behavior, even with a cold, and the interviews and pics came out pretty decent. (I’ll share when article is published– Maybe I’m being presumptious!)

So I plan to take a sec to upload a little slideshow of the pictures I took, but my new camera was on crack and several of the miami pics were destroyed, so I’m left with just a handful.

Yeah, I know, you were really looking forward to another slideshow excuse for a post.

Here’s the other thing. I plan to begin to focus the theme of this blog a little more toward parenting and work from home issues. Less of this mindless rambling I do to make myself laugh and chuckle and think I am oh so hilarious while you are very very very bored.

SO- don’t ask when I will get around to changing up categories and what not, but it will be soon. Before Feb. 7th, because I hope to have a sub-domain for the LOST blogs by the time they start again. And I can’t do THAT until Chuck offers his free time to guide me through it. (shameless beg).

Well I’m off to bed! Early bird gets more work done!

Lost Nuggets during DAY BREAK 12.13.2006

Last week the nugget, (30 second promotional clip,) of the rest of season 3  of LOST during DAY BREAK was a clip of Desmond rushing out into the ocean after some one… CLAIRE, who appears to have drowned!

This week, we see Jack in one of the bear cages (no Sawyer or Kate in sight) surrounded by tons of people who look decently dressed. Cindy, (YES, the flight attendant who was “abducted” on the plight to the Losties side of the island) is there and asks whether or not he recognizes her. She looks clean, happy and healthy. He asks her something like, “how did they take you?” and/or “how is it that you are here?” or something along those lines and she answers that it isn’t that simple (basically) and she seems puzzled by his question. Then he asks her what she is doing there, and she answers that they are supposed to watch. He is pretty angry about that and says if she has something to watch, go watch it.

Can’t wait til Feb. 7th!!!

Thoughts on Writing

Apart from what you read here at Mama Need Java, written material splashes out of my fingertips in lots of ways. I love writing at Polk Voice and Associated Content when I’ve got the time, and I try to write something for future articles or even books each day. When I was in school, you could have added the papers and essay assignments to the list. I type fast, LOVE automatic spellcheck, WISH it caught more of my grammar errors, and long to be a better writer about 99.9% of my waking day. In my dreams I’m as good as Annie Dillard, though slightly less earthy.

The thought of getting my master’s in creative writing has been bouncing around in my head for some time. I’ve held it up by its collar, asked how it dares to disrupt my time, my finances and debt, and whether it thinks it can make a decent writer out of me afterall. I think I’m through that phase. The idea and me are becoming fast friends, or as Anne of Green Gables calls it, “Bossom friends.”

That is to say, I am considering applying to some schools this spring, to try out some classes next fall. I don’t know what will come of it all, how much financial aid I will get, how much time it will take, all that is to come. I have simply come to the realization that my desire to become a better writer is something I cannot avoid. As the time comes, I will share which schools I’m applying to. It’s difficult to find low-residency MFA in Creative Writing that is not through the roof expensive, but there appears to be some decent schools out there.

To lay the ground work for the “time” aspect, I am beginning to focus my work- namely, Vivian Writes, (as opposed to work from Wiley and Millipore and the other primarily clerical odd jobs,) on newsletter researching and writing. I really enjoyed a project I had on this several months ago, reporting/writing articles regularly for a specific industry/client. I am now picking up anything I can get my hands on to further my skills in newsletter writing particularly for the bonus of reoccuring work so that when my school classes begin I will have more regular work and income rather than the enormous fluctuations I currently take on. Newsletters can be both print or e-mail, and often require the work of a freelance writer to research the latest news and trends, find pictures, formulate the sections and articles, and often times do the layout as well. There’s lots of ways this can go, and all different types of clients, from a large industry specific newsletter that goes out to clients or buyers, to a small e-mail newsletter written to frequent customers of a local shop. Vastly different hours and pay go with each, but the thing they all have in common is fairly consistent work. Consistent = gooooood.

So, writer for hire; if any one knows of something along these lines, I’d love to talk with ya!

Hey, a kinda cool thing for me today was to FINALLY check out my site statistics. 930 something of you visited on Nov. 2nd! Go fig! And nearly 3,000 since I’ve been running, which nearly made me tear and say, “They love me, they reallllly love me!” My page gets an average of 400 hits a day, and I’m probably a couple of them to moderate comments and write posts, so that leaves a good little posse of you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Okay, enough rambling! I’ve got to go check out MATTHEW FOX (aka Dr. Jack Shepherd from Lost) HOSTING SNL!
